What Changed When Season 5 Started

The headline Season 5 change is the Active Duty map pool: Cache returns and Overpass is removed, joining Dust II, Mirage, Inferno, Nuke, Ancient, and Anubis.

You re-establish your displayed rating through calibration matches in the opening weeks of Season 5. There is no Battle Pass, CS2 Premier is a free ranked season, so the season medal and end-of-season coin are the rewards.

Cache Takes Overpass's Active Duty Slot

Cache is back in the Active Duty pool and Overpass is out. The seven maps now used for Premier pick-and-ban and for professional play are Ancient, Anubis, Cache, Dust II, Inferno, Mirage and Nuke, so Cache is the one to put hours into if your team never learned it.

C4 Damage Now Travels as a Shockwave

Valve rebuilt C4 explosion damage on official defusal maps. Instead of applying instantly, the blast now spreads outward from the bombsite as a shockwave, with damage values precomputed by simulation and baked into each map. Line of sight matters: a player behind a wall or around a corner takes less damage than one standing in the open at the same distance, which changes where it is safe to wait out a lost retake.

Armory and Community Map Rotation

The Armory added the Arabesque and Spy Tech weapon collections and the Fruits & Vegetables and Auto Racing sticker collections, while Train 2025, Sport & Field, Sugarface 2 and Elemental Craft rotated out. In the community map slots, Boulder, Fachwerk and Shelter joined Competitive, Casual and Deathmatch, and Debris and El Dorado joined Wingman.

Earn the Season Medal

To receive the Premier Season 5 medal you need an account in good standing, at least 25 Premier wins during the season, and a visible CS Rating when the season closes. Every further 25 wins adds a bar to the medal, up to five bars at 125 wins.

Push Your Peak Rating

The medal's colour reflects the highest rating tier you reached during the season, not the rating you finish on. A late push that touches a new colour band is kept even if you drop back afterwards, so the final weeks of Premier Season 5 are the last chance to raise it.

Keep an Eye on the Armory

Armory collections are not tied to the Premier calendar, but they do rotate: four collections left when Premier Season 5 began. If you are saving stars for a specific Arabesque or Spy Tech item, redeem before Valve's next update rather than assuming it will stay.
