Based on the median length of recent Diablo III seasons, Season 40 is estimated to end around early January 2027. What's New in Season 40: Light's Calling
Season 40 brings back the Light's Calling theme. Blizzard's preview describes it as the return of the Angelic Crucible and the Sanctified item system.
Angelic Crucibles and Sanctified items
Angelic Crucibles are a consumable you recover while playing a seasonal hero. Using one Sanctifies any equippable Legendary item, giving it one of three new class-specific powers at random. You only learn which power you rolled once the item is sanctified.
Haedrig's Gifts
Chapters 2, 3 and 4 of the Season Journey each award a Haedrig's Gift with pieces of one class set. This season's sets are Horde of the Ninety Savages (Barbarian), Aegis of Valor (Crusader), Gears of Dreadlands (Demon Hunter), Patterns of Justice (Monk), Mundunugu's Regalia (Witch Doctor), Typhon's Veil (Wizard) and Masquerade of the Burning Carnival (Necromancer).
Season Journey rewards
Besides the Helm and Shoulders of the seasonal Conqueror set, the journey awards new portrait frames, a pair of wings, the Taennin the Tiny pet and the Primal Hunter portrait. Finishing the Conqueror tier also adds one stash tab, up to five across seasons.
Before Season 40 Ends: What to Finish
Diablo III has no battle pass. What ends with a season is seasonal play itself: nothing on a seasonal hero is deleted, but the rewards stop.
- Season Journey cosmetics: Taennin the Tiny, the wings and the Primal Hunter portrait are earned only by finishing the journey while Season 40 is live.
- Conquests and leaderboards: Conquests and seasonal Greater Rift ranks count only during the season, and the seasonal leaderboards reset when it closes.
- Haedrig's Gifts: open them on the class you want the set for. Unclaimed gifts from this season's journey are gone once it ends.
- Sanctified items: Angelic Crucibles are a seasonal mechanic. Use the ones you hold before the reset.
- What carries over: items, gold, Paragon experience, Artisan levels, recipes, stash tabs and Blood Shards move to your non-seasonal account. Hardcore seasonal progress goes to non-seasonal Hardcore.
What Comes Next After Season 40
Season 41 is unannounced: Blizzard has not named it or dated it. Blizzard announces each Diablo III season with a preview post on Blizzard News a few weeks before it starts, then a "now live" post on launch day, and this page updates when that preview appears.
